Review Pseudonym Profile

Preset rule sets: Basic, +Pixel, HIPAA, Teaching, or Custom.

Each profile is a set of tag rules. All of them start from the DICOM PS3.15 Basic profile.

  • Basic is the PS3.15 Basic Application Level Confidentiality Profile. Every attribute in the standard’s Table E.1-1 (2026c edition) gets the action the table gives it: remove, blank, dummy value or new UID. Where the table offers a choice, such as “remove or blank”, dcmage keeps the attribute and blanks it or gives it a dummy value, which is valid for any image type. Patient’s Name and Patient ID get the pseudonym.
  • +Pixel is Basic plus removal of the whole overlay range, groups 6000 to 60FF. Basic itself removes only the overlay data and overlay comments.
  • HIPAA is Basic plus the Safe Harbor list. Where both name a tag, the stricter action wins, so Patient’s Age is removed unless dates are shifted.
  • Teaching is HIPAA, but Study Description, Series Description and Protocol Name are kept word for word.
  • Custom starts from Basic, and your rule overrides apply on top.

What the exported file records

Every profile sets Patient Identity Removed (0012,0062) to YES and writes De-identification Method (0012,0063) as text, for example “dcmage Basic profile, dates shifted”.

Basic, +Pixel and HIPAA also write the standard profile code 113100 in De-identification Method Code Sequence (0012,0064), with the private-tag scrub on Remove all and no custom rules. A date option adds its own code: shifting adds 113107 and 113108, keeping the original dates adds 113106. Teaching and Custom never write a code, and neither does a run that keeps private tags, because neither result is the standard profile.
