AccessionNumber re-link to RIS
Re-link a study to the RIS by setting the correct AccessionNumber.
Problem
A DICOM study arrived from the modality with a blank or incorrect Accession Number. The RIS (Radiology Information System) uses the Accession Number as the primary key to link images to orders. Without the correct accession number, the study won’t attach to the patient’s order in the RIS, and reports won’t be associated with the images. You need to set or correct the Accession Number to relink the study.
Steps
-
Open the file (⌘O) and switch to Edit mode (⌘3).
-
Filter for Accession Number (0008,0050) — if the tag exists, double-click to edit. If it’s missing from the file entirely, use Add tag in the metadata toolbar to create it first, then set the value.
-
Enter the correct accession number from your RIS (e.g.
ACC12345). -
Click Save change and verify the gold highlighting.
-
The Accession Number validates as SH VR (Short String): max 16 characters. Longer values are rejected.
Expected Result
- Accession Number displays the corrected value with gold highlighting.
- The study is now linkable to the RIS order via matching accession number.
- If the tag was added (not edited), it appears as a new row in the metadata tree.
- The dirty counter tracks the modification.
