ReferringPhysician correction

Set or correct the referring physician recorded on a study.

Problem

A study was ordered by Dr. Jones but the Referring Physician tag was left blank by the modality, or it contains a generic hospital code instead of the actual physician’s name. Referring Physician is used for report routing, referral tracking, and credentialing audits. You need to set or correct this tag.

Steps

1. Open the file (⌘O) and switch to Edit mode (⌘3).

2. Filter for Referring Physician (0008,0090) — double-click to open the edit modal.

3. Enter the physician’s name in PN format: PHYSICIAN^REFERRED (family name ^ given name).

4. Click Save change.

5. The PN VR enforces a 64-character limit per component. A 65-character value is rejected with a validation error.

Expected Result

• Referring Physician displays the corrected name with gold highlighting.
• The tag is validated as PN VR (max 64 chars per component).
• All edited tags are tracked by the dirty counter and are undoable.
