Metadata correction
Laterality fix
Correct left/right laterality on a study acquired with the wrong side labeled.
Problem
A knee X-ray or breast tomosynthesis study has Laterality set to blank or wrong — e.g. the left knee was imaged but the tag says “R”. Incorrect laterality can cause the wrong anatomical side to be displayed, lead to wrong-site surgery concerns, and break comparison with prior studies of the same side.
Steps
-
Open the file (⌘O) and switch to Edit mode (⌘3).
-
Filter for Laterality (0020,0060) and double-click to edit.
-
Enter the correct value:
L(left),R(right), orB(bilateral). The CS VR accepts any short string. -
Click Save change.
-
Also check and correct Image Laterality (0020,0062) if present — this tag provides per-image laterality for paired body parts.
Expected Result
- Laterality displays the corrected value with gold highlighting.
- The study now links to the correct comparison priors in PACS.
- Both Laterality (0020,0060 — series level) and Image Laterality (0020,0062 — instance level) can be independently corrected.
