Move instances between series

Relocate individual instances from one series to another.

Problem

A few slices within a series belong to a different acquisition — they appear out of order or at the wrong anatomical position because they were incorrectly assigned to the series at scan time. You need to move specific instances from one series to another without deleting and reloading.

Steps

1. Open the files (⌘O) and switch to the Files tab.

2. Use Split Slices (🥞 button) on the source series to extract the misplaced instances into a temporary new series.

3. Merge the temporary series into the target series using the Merge series dropdown.

4. Verify positioning — switch to View mode and scroll through the target series to confirm the moved slices are in the correct anatomical order.

Expected Result

• The misplaced instances now appear in the target series.
• SOP Instance UIDs are preserved (instances are moved, not duplicated).
• The source series has fewer instances after the move; the target series has more.
• Both the split and merge operations are individually undoable.
