Translate text in Structured Reports

Translate the free-text content of a Structured Report into another language.

Problem

A DICOM Structured Report (SR) contains clinical findings in a non-English language or uses outdated terminology. You need to translate the text content of the SR nodes without altering the SR structure, relationship types, or coded concept mappings.

Steps

  1. Open the SR DICOM file — click Open files… (⌘O) and load a Structured Report file (e.g. sr-test.dcm).
  2. Open the SR panel — click the SR tab in the right rail. The SR tree displays the hierarchical content structure.
  3. Locate the text node — navigate the SR tree to find the node containing the text to translate. Nodes are organized by concept name (e.g. “Finding”, “Conclusion”).
  4. Edit the text — double-click the text or measurement value node. Enter the translated text. The SR structure (CONTAINER, CODE, NUM relationships) remains unchanged.
  5. Save — the modified SR node appears gold-highlighted in the metadata tree.
  6. Verify — expand the SR tree and confirm the translated text appears in the correct node. The concept name code and relationship type (e.g. CONTAINS) are preserved.

Expected Result

  • Translated text appears in the correct SR node position.
  • SR structure (CONTAINER/CODE/NUM hierarchy) is preserved.
  • Concept name codes and relationship types are unchanged.
  • Modified nodes appear gold-highlighted with dirty counter increment.
  • Edits are individually undoable.
